Bentley Mulsanne Debuts at Pebble Beach
On Sunday 16 August, the all-new grand Bentley was revealed and named in the exclusive setting of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where Bentley was the featured marqué. Following a brief interview where the name ‘Mulsanne’ was announced, the new car was revealed alongside the 1930s 8 Litre.
The Bentley 8-litre was first shown at the 1930 London Motor Show. Capable of exceeding 100 mph, the 8-litre demonstrated W.O. Bentley’s ambition and ability to build a grand luxury car capable of surpassing every other leading manufacturer of the day. This masterpiece represented the last big Bentley that was entirely built and designed by Bentley’s engineers – until now.
In introducing the Bentley Mulsanne, Bentley Chairman and CEO, Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen said: “The challenge we set our engineers was to create a new, grand Bentley that would stand as the pinnacle of British luxury motoring, offering the world’s most exclusive driving experience. They have responded to this challenge with real passion, and the result is a luxury grand tourer that sets new standards in terms of comfort, effortless performance and handcrafted refinement – the very qualities for which Bentley is renowned.“
The Mulsanne name reflects Bentley’s sporting pedigree and unique association with Le Mans, where the manqué has been victorious six times. This famous corner at the end of the straight is synonymous with the Bentley manqué. Few places offer a stronger or more emotive connection with Bentley than the famed Mulsanne corner.
